Each year, we release the most popular songs chosen by our couples over the last 12 months for their ceremony hosted at the hotel. Whether they held the ceremony indoors in our Boyne Suite or outdoors in our private woodland area, 2023 witnessed such an amazing array of different music for wedding ceremonies.

Continuing the trend experienced in 2022 (see the list for 2022 here), there was an overwhelming majority of our couples that chose to have a live singer or musician perform their ceremony music (rather than have the original soundtrack played over a speaker system) as couples put more of their focus and budget into going that little bit extra with ceremony music.

Here are the most popular songs chosen for the processional (entrance), middle song (either for candle lighting or during the official signing of the registry) and the recessional (exit) song.

Processional (Entrance) Song

1.       “You are the Reason” - Calum Scott feat. Leona Lewis.
Calum Scott’s “You Are the Reason” was the most popular song chosen by our couples during 2023 – a total of seven couples chose this modern-day classic as their entrance song. The song lends the vocals of Leona Lewis and offers the perfect slow-tempo for a bride or groom to walk down the aisle.

2.       “Canon in D” - Johann Pachelbel.
From a relatively modern hit to a timeless classic, many of our couples embraced tradition and chose Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D for their entrance music. Instantly recognisable, the song is a perfect choice for a piano or stringed instrument when couples choose a live musician to play their wedding ceremony.

Middle Song (Candle Lighting or Registry signing)

1.       “A Thousand Years” – Christina Perri.
It’s not a proper ceremony song list without Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years”! The song has featured now on 3 out of the 4 years we’ve been compiling this list and there is no sign of this classic love song dwindling in popularity. The song remains in the list of top 100 song videos watched on YouTube.

2.       “To Make You Feel My Love” – Garth Brooks
As proven by his record selling gigs in Croke Park during 2022, Garth Brooks is hugely popular here in Ireland. And this includes among our wedding couples, as his cover of Bob Dylan’s “To Make You Feel My Love” was chosen by five of our couples during their wedding ceremony.

Recessional (Exit)

1.       “Head and Heart” – Joel Corry & MNEK.
Released in 2020, “Head and Heart” by Joel Corry/MNEK was the most popular exit song of 2023, chosen by a whopping eight couples in total (might not sound much, but of the million songs to choose from, having eight couples choose this song is mad!!) The song has an instant “in-your-face” party atmosphere and is the perfect choice to kick off your celebrations as a married couple!

2.       “(Your Love Is Lifting Me) Higher and Higher” – Jackie Wilson.
Another instantly recognisable party starter, this up-tempo song by Jackie Wilson demands smiles and dance moves as you strut down the aisle to the applause and well wishes of all your guests. It’s surprising that this song features for the first time on one of these lists.
