At weddings here in Ireland, we’re seeing couples place far more importance on atmosphere, guest experience and comfort rather than overly styled dishes or gimmicky presentation. While beautiful presentation still matters, there’s definitely been a noticeable shift toward well-cooked, generous, flavourful dishes that guests actually remember positively after the wedding day.

Here are some of the biggest wedding food trends we’re seeing in Ireland so far in 2026.

A Return to “Honest Food”
One of the biggest shifts we’ve noticed is couples moving away from tiny, overly decorative dishes that look better in photos than they taste on the plate.

Couples now want food that feels warm, generous, comforting and satisfying. Guests also seem far happier with recognisable, well-executed dishes rather than experimental fine dining that leaves everyone looking for food again an hour later.

Comfort, flavour and quality ingredients are winning over presentation gimmicks in 2026. We’ve seen this most evidently for desserts; where more and more couples are choosing from our homemade dessert options vs the once popular “assiette of desserts”.

This shift fits perfectly with the wider Irish hospitality trend of focusing on atmosphere and genuine guest experience rather than formality for the sake of appearances.

Elevated Comfort Food is Everywhere
Couples still want luxury, but they increasingly want it delivered through familiar and crowd-pleasing food. What we are seeing is couples spend more time and consideration on their choices for arrival catering and evening food

The idea is less about formality and more about creating a relaxed atmosphere where guests genuinely enjoy the food. Couples are considering the experience for their guests rather than aesthetics or grand displays that hardly get touched, and where appropriate, adding in extra catering at crucial points throughout the day to keep the hunger pangs away.

Couples Are Prioritising Guest Experience Over Formality
One of the biggest changes in Irish weddings is the growing focus on guest comfort and enjoyment.

Couples are asking:
Will guests actually enjoy eating this?
Will people leave full and happy?
Does the food suit the atmosphere of the day?

This is leading to more relaxed menus, better evening food and less pressure to follow traditional “wedding food rules.” We’re seeing many couples choose a four-course meal rather than a five-course, and putting the extra thought into arrival or evening catering instead.

Late-Night Food Variety Has Become Essential
Couples are increasingly treating late-night food as part of the entertainment and overall guest experience rather than simply an add on. It is for this reason we offer an extensive choice of options on all our wedding packages for our evening catering options. Gone are the standard “cocktail sausages and chicken goujons”; rather, dishes such as our Lebanon Falafel, Chicken Tikki Skewers or Mini Cod Bites have increased in popularity. Many of our options can also be offered gluten-free, and this ticks many boxes among couples for guests with any dietary requirements.

Wedding Cakes Are Back in the Spotlight
Interestingly, while some trends are becoming more relaxed, wedding cakes are making a comeback as a central feature of the reception again.

Couples are moving away from overly minimalist designs and choosing cakes that feel bold, celebratory, and personal. We’re seeing: couples not only choose larger statement cakes, but also position their cake display front and centre rather than hidden in a corner.

The wedding cake is once again becoming part of the overall atmosphere and celebration rather than simply a quick photo opportunity.

Guests Still Want a Proper Sit-Down Meal
While relaxed dining and interactive food experiences are growing, Irish weddings still strongly favour a substantial sit-down dinner at the centre of the day.

Unlike some international trends moving fully toward food trucks or grazing-only receptions, most Irish couples still value the tradition of everyone sitting together for a proper meal. However, the style of that meal is evolving — with menus becoming more relaxed, more flavour-focused and often less overly formal than previous years.

Guest numbers are also a factor. Micro-weddings remain popular, with the sit-down meal enjoyed in a more intimate setting, allowing for a larger group to join for the evening.

Food in 2026 is About Atmosphere & Enjoyment
Ultimately, the biggest wedding food trend in Ireland for 2026 is simple: couples want guests to genuinely enjoy themselves.

The focus has shifted away from creating meals designed purely for social media and back toward creating memorable experiences through great hospitality, generous portions and food people actually want to eat. And honestly? We think that’s a trend worth keeping.
