2025 has been an exciting year for weddings — full of personal touches and unique moments. Here at Lucan Spa Hotel, we’ve been privileged to host a wide range of beautiful celebrations, each reflecting the personality of our wonderful couples. As we approach the end of another year, we’re listed some standout trends and features we’ve noticed this year among the weddings we have hosted in 2025.
🌿 1. A Shift Away from Favours and Sweet Tables
Couples are moving away from traditional wedding favours and large sweet tables, choosing instead to focus on meaningful experiences for their guests. From bespoke décor to interactive moments and thoughtful gestures, the emphasis has been on creating memories rather than physical keepsakes.
🍰 2. Wedding Cake Back in the Foreground
After years of the traditional cake being moved further away from couple’s thoughts (indeed, many couples chose to forego a wedding cake altogether), 2025 saw our couples bringing the wedding cake back to centre stage. We noticed couples putting more of their budget into the wedding cake. Statement cakes, bold flavours and creative designs became a highlight of the reception, often serving as a visual focal point as well as a delicious treat.

This year, personal expression has been at the heart of weddings. Couples are stepping away from traditional “rules” and making their day uniquely theirs — we noticed more and more of our couples specifically choose to highlight their own quirkiness and unique characteristics that screamed “Yes, this is me!” to their friends and family.

Let’s face it, there’s only so much stories about how you met and not-so-funny stag-related shenanigans you can listen to. And our couples agreed. Many couples opted for brief, heartfelt words or skipped speeches altogether, choosing to get the party started quicker with their chosen evening entertainment. This creates a relaxed, more engaging atmosphere for all guests.

Fashion in 2025 weddings has embraced individuality like never before. Brides are embracing non-traditional dresses, with many of our stunning brides forgoing classic white in favour of gowns featuring bold and vibrant colours. Many of our grooms, on the other hand, explored colourful suits or unique accessories.

While content creators aren’t a new phenomenon, 2025 was certainly the year where they became mainstream for Irish weddings. Alongside traditional photography, more couples are hiring content creators to capture authentic, candid moments in short, social-ready formats. From Instagram reels to TikTok clips, this trend highlights the modern couple’s desire to share memories instantly while keeping the day fun, engaging and real.
